ডেটা রাখার জন্য মেমরিতে অনেকগুলো সুনির্দিষ্ট স্থান বা সেল থাকে এবং সেলগুলো শনাক্ত করার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় ব্যবস্থা থাকে। এ ধরনের ব্যবস্থাকে মেমরি অ্যাড্রেস বলে। মেমরি সেলকে শনাক্ত করার জন্য প্রতিটি মেমরি সেলের একটি নির্দিষ্ট অ্যাড্রেস থাকে। যদি অ্যাড্রেস রেজিস্টারে nটি বিট জমা থাকে তাহলে তার সাহায্যে 2°টি অ্যাড্রেস রাখা যায়।
