Why can’t base code be modified in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations?

Answer:
Base code cannot be modified because Microsoft provides monthly binary updates. Modifying base code (overlayering) would increase upgrade cost, cause merge conflicts, and break compatibility during updates. Therefore, only extensions are supported.
