In D365 F&O, a View is built on top of a Query.
The Query defines:
Which tables are used
How those tables are joined
Which fields are selected
Any ranges, sorting, or grouping
Without a Query:
The View has no data source
The system has no SQL definition to generate
The View becomes meaningless because it cannot return data
So, a Query is mandatory for a View to function.
