চলন গতি দুই প্রকার। যেমন, (১) সরল চলন গতি ও (২) বক্র চলন গতি।
(১)সরল চলন গতিঃ যখন কোনো বস্তু সরল পথে এমনভাবে চলতে থাকে যে তার প্রতিটি কণা একই দিকে সমপরিমাণ দূরত্ব অতিক্রম করে, তখন এই গতিকে সরল চলন গতি বলে।
(২) বক্র চলন গতিঃ যে চলন গতি বক্রপথে ঘটে তাকে বক্রচলন বা বক্ররৈখিক গতি বলে। যেমন, পৃথিবীর বার্ষিক গতি, উল্লম্ব নাগরদোলায় ঝুলন্ত চেয়ার গুলির গতি ইত্যাদি।
