The division between "kicking" and "running" (or "carrying") games was first made clear at English public schools, but it was not a contribution of Richard Mulcaster. Mulcaster's contributions include references to teams, positions, a referee and a coach, as well as the earliest evidence of organised team football and a move away from the disordered and violent forms of traditional football.
