    Transport Days

Include transportation lead time in delivery date promising

Transport Days are the number of days required to ship inventory from a source location to a destination location. They are added to the ship or receipt date calculated by ATP or other delivery date control methods to provide a realistic delivery commitment.

    1. What Are Transport Days?

Transport Days represent the time required for goods to physically move from one location to another. They are a critical input in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management for building accurate delivery promises.

    • Applies to sales orders and transfer orders.
    • Influences the confirmed ship or receipt date.
    • Ensures accurate and achievable delivery commitments to customers.

Think of Transport Days as the road, not the warehouse

ATP tells you when the goods leave. Transport Days tell you how long the truck is on the road. Add the two together and you get the real customer receipt date.

    2. How Transport Days Work

The system takes the ship or receipt date calculated by the delivery date control method (ATP, Sales Lead Time, ATP + Issue Margin, or CTP), then adds Transport Days on top of it to produce the final confirmed delivery date.

    Flow
Source Location Transit Time (Transport Days) Destination Location
The system adds Transport Days to the calculated ship/receipt date (from ATP, Sales Lead Time, ATP + Issue Margin, or CTP) to arrive at the final confirmed delivery date.

    3. Example — Sales Order with Transport Days

    The Equation
    15-May-2026
    ATP Ship Date
    + 3 Days
    Transport Days
    = 18-May-2026
    Confirmed Ship Date

    Key points

    • Transport Days are added at the line level, not the header level.
    • If Transport Days change, the confirmed date is recalculated.
    • Transport Days consider the shipping route, carrier, and transit time.
    • Used for both intercompany and external customer deliveries.

    4. Where Transport Days Are Maintained

Transport Days are maintained across several setup areas in D365 SCM. Each supports a different level of precision.

    1

Warehouse management > Setup > Shipping > Transportation routes

Maintain routes between locations and the default transport days for each combination.

    2

Fleet management > Setup > Routes

Define routes, carriers, and transit times.

    3

    Carrier transit times

Maintain transit time by carrier and mode of transport.

    4

Customer / Vendor / Company accounts

Default routes or transport days can be specified per party.

    5

Sales order / Transfer order line

Transport Days can be overridden on the line if required for a specific shipment.

    5. Impact on Delivery Date Control Methods

Transport Days are considered with all delivery date control methods. The formula changes only in what produces the base Ship Date.

Delivery Date Control Method How Transport Days Are Used
Sales Lead Time Ship Date = Order Date + Sales Lead Time + Transport Days
ATP (Available-to-Promise) Ship Date = ATP Date + Transport Days
ATP + Issue Margin Ship Date = ATP Date + Issue Margin + Transport Days
CTP (Capable-to-Promise) Ship Date = CTP Date + Transport Days
CTP for Planning Optimization Ship Date = Planning Optimization CTP Date + Transport Days
Receipt dates for purchase orders and transfer orders are also calculated by adding Transport Days to the based date.

    6. Example — Transfer Order

Transport Days are not limited to sales orders. They also apply to inventory movements between warehouses.

    Transfer Flow
    From Warehouse
    Site A
    Transport Days
    5 Days
    To Warehouse
    Site B
    Planned Receive Date

The system calculates the planned receive date at Site B by adding 5 transport days to the ship date from Site A.

    7. Best Practices

    Maintain Accurate Routes

Keep transportation routes and transit times up to date.

    Use Default Values

Set default transport days where possible to avoid manual entry.

    Review Regularly

Review and update transport days periodically to reflect real conditions.

    Coordinate with Logistics

Work with logistics teams for realistic transit time estimates.

    Monitor Impact

Check how transport days affect delivery promises and customer service.

    8. Important Notes

Watch out Transport Days apply only when Delivery Date Control is enabled (Sales Lead Time, ATP, ATP + Issue Margin, CTP, or CTP for Planning Optimization). If Delivery Date Control = None, Transport Days are ignored.
Good to know Transport Days work for both intercompany and external customer deliveries, and they influence both ship dates and receipt dates depending on the order type.

    Key Takeaway

Transport Days ensure that delivery promises are realistic by considering the actual time required to move goods from one location to another.
