National Consumer Day
⬧ To spread awareness about the importance of consumers and their rights and responsibilities in the country, National Consumer Day is celebrated every year on 24 December.
⬧ A large population of India is illiterate, who is unaware of their rights and duties, but in the matter of consumer rights, even educated people seem indifferent to their rights.
⬧ This day is organized every year to make people aware about it.
⬧ On this day in the year 1986, the President gave assent to the Consumer Protection Act, 1986.
⬧ The primary objective of the Consumer Protection Act is to provide protection to the consumers against various forms of exploitation such as defective goods, unsatisfactory services and unfair trade practices.
⬧ World Consumer Rights Day is organized globally on 15 March every year.
⬧ The Central Consumer Protection Authority in India is a regulatory body established in the year 2020 based on the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
