World Theatre Day
• Every year on 27 March, 'World Theatre Day' is celebrated all over the world by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) through the International Theatre Community.
• The main purpose of organizing this day is to create awareness among people about the importance of theatre or drama art around the world.
• World Theatre Day was started in the year 1961 by the International Theatre Institute.
• World Theatre Day provides an opportunity to bring different cultures closer to each other by allowing different culture and art forms to be celebrated together.
• The first World Theatre Day message was given by Jean Cocteau in the year 1962.
• In the year 2002, this message was given by Girish Karnard, the most famous theatre artist of India.
• Drama is a genre related to theatre, which is presented through acting artists.
• The International Theatre Institute was founded in the year 1948 by Sir Julian Huxley, the first Director General of UNESCO, and JB Priestley, the noted playwright and novelist.
• The aim of the founders of ITI was to create an organization that aligns with UNESCO's goals on culture, education and the arts and to improve the status of its members associated with the performing arts.
• This organization was envisioned as an international organization that can bring professional and budding artists on a single platform to promote the education of performing arts, as well as use performing arts for mutual society and peace.
