    Tej Bahadur Sapru: The Eminent Statesman and Legal Luminary

    Tej Bahadur Sapru br />⬧Tej Bahadur Sapru was born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh on December 8, 1875.
    ⬧ He obtained his law degree from Agra College.
    ⬧ He practiced law in Moradabad before moving to Allahabad.
    ⬧ He participated in the session of the Indian National Congress in the year 1892 and played an important role in taking forward the liberal policies of Gopal Krishna Gokhale.
    ⬧ Sapru was associated with an English newspaper called 'The Leader' which was started by Madan Mohan Malaviya on October 24, 1910 after 'Abhyudaya'.
    ⬧ Sapru started his political career from the year 1913 and was a member of the United Provinces (UP) Legislative Council between 1913 and 1916.
    ⬧ Between 1916 and 1920, he was a member of the 'Imperial Legislative Council' and during the years 1920 to 1923, he was also a law member in the Viceroy's Council.
    ⬧ Sapru participated in Annie Besant's Home Rule League movement.
    ⬧ He was critical of Gandhi's leadership, but still played an important role in getting the Gandhi-Irwin pact done. Only after this the Congress was able to participate in the Second Round Table Conference.
    ⬧ Tej Bahadur Sapru was an eminent jurist and a prominent leader of the Congress. He was against the Muslim League's demand for separate electorates for Muslims and greater representation in states where their population is large.
    ⬧ In the year 1918, he broke away from the 'Indian National Congress' and became a founding member of the 'National Liberal Federation of India'.
    ⬧ Tej Bahadur Sapru was a member of the Moody's Committee in the year 1924.
    ⬧ Moodyman Committee had four Indian members including Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, Shivaswami Iyer Dr. R.P. Paranjpe and Mohammad Ali Jinnah.
    ⬧ Tej Bahadur Sapru represented India at the 'Imperial Conference' in London in 1923.
    ⬧ The Sapru Report, 1945, stated that as mandated by the Constitution, the government should equally enforce political, social and religious freedom between two different groups of society.
    ⬧ Sapru was a big supporter of Hindu Muslim unity.
    ⬧ Freedom fighter Tej Bahadur Sapru died on January 20, 1949 in Allahabad.
