Introduction — ভূমিকা

Prepositions of place tell us where a person, animal, or object is located. Preposition of place কোনো ব্যক্তি, প্রাণী বা বস্তু কোথায় রয়েছে তা বোঝায়।

Prepositions of movement show how someone or something moves from one place to another. Preposition of movement বোঝায় কীভাবে কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু এক স্থান থেকে অন্য স্থানে চলাচল করে।

Common prepositions of place include at, in, on, under, above, below, behind, in front of, beside, between, among, near, opposite, and inside. স্থানের সাধারণ preposition-এর মধ্যে রয়েছে at, in, on, under, above, below, behind, in front of, beside, between, among, near, opposite এবং inside।

Common prepositions of movement include to, into, onto, from, out of, off, through, across, along, around, past, towards, up, and down. চলাচলের সাধারণ preposition-এর মধ্যে রয়েছে to, into, onto, from, out of, off, through, across, along, around, past, towards, up এবং down।

1. Place vs Movement — স্থান বনাম চলাচল

A photograph shows where something is. A video shows how it moves from one location to another. একটি ছবি দেখায় কোনো কিছু কোথায় আছে। একটি ভিডিও দেখায় সেটি কীভাবে এক স্থান থেকে অন্য স্থানে যাচ্ছে।

We use at when we think of a place as a specific point, position, event, or activity location. কোনো স্থানকে নির্দিষ্ট বিন্দু, অবস্থান, অনুষ্ঠান অথবা কাজের স্থান হিসেবে দেখলে at ব্যবহার করা হয়।

She is waiting at the bus stop.	সে বাসস্টপে অপেক্ষা করছে।
I met him at the station.	আমি তার সঙ্গে স্টেশনে দেখা করেছিলাম।
Someone is standing at the door.	কেউ দরজার কাছে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।
They are at school.	তারা স্কুলে আছে।
We met at a conference.	আমাদের একটি সম্মেলনে দেখা হয়েছিল।
She works at a hospital.	সে একটি হাসপাতালে কাজ করে।

4. In for an Enclosed Place or Area — ঘেরা স্থান বা এলাকার জন্য In

We use in when someone or something is inside an enclosed place, container, town, city, country, or large area. কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু ঘেরা স্থান, পাত্র, শহর, দেশ অথবা বড় এলাকার মধ্যে থাকলে in ব্যবহার করা হয়।

The children are in the room.	শিশুরা ঘরের ভেতরে আছে।
The keys are in my bag.	চাবিগুলো আমার ব্যাগের ভেতরে আছে।
She lives in Kolkata.	সে কলকাতায় থাকে।
They work in India.	তারা ভারতে কাজ করে।

5. On for a Surface — কোনো পৃষ্ঠের জন্য On

We use on when someone or something touches or rests on a surface. কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু কোনো পৃষ্ঠ স্পর্শ করে বা তার উপর অবস্থান করলে on ব্যবহার করা হয়।

The book is on the table.	বইটি টেবিলের উপর আছে।
There is a picture on the wall.	দেয়ালে একটি ছবি আছে।
Your phone is on the bed.	তোমার ফোনটি বিছানার উপর আছে।
She is sitting on a chair.	সে একটি চেয়ারে বসে আছে।
The notice is on the door.	বিজ্ঞপ্তিটি দরজায় লাগানো আছে।

6. In vs At for Buildings — ভবনের ক্ষেত্রে In বনাম At

Use at when focusing on the location or activity, and in when focusing on being physically inside the building. স্থান বা কাজের দিকে গুরুত্ব দিলে at এবং ভবনের ভেতরে শারীরিক অবস্থানের দিকে গুরুত্ব দিলে in ব্যবহার করুন।

7. Above, Over, Below, and Under — উপরে ও নিচে

8. Beside, Next to, Near, and By — পাশে ও কাছে

Next to	Immediately beside একেবারে পাশে	The bank is next to the pharmacy. — ব্যাংকটি ওষুধের দোকানের পাশে।
Near	Close, but not necessarily beside কাছে	I live near the station. — আমি স্টেশনের কাছে থাকি।
By	Beside or close to পাশে বা কাছে	She is standing by the window. — সে জানালার পাশে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।

Beside vs Besides · পার্থক্য Beside = পাশে।
Besides = এছাড়া বা অতিরিক্তভাবে।

She sat beside me. — সে আমার পাশে বসেছিল।
Besides English, she speaks Bangla. — ইংরেজি ছাড়াও সে বাংলা বলে।

9. Between and Among — মধ্যে

Use between for two clearly separated people, places, or things. দুই ব্যক্তি, স্থান বা বস্তুর মধ্যে বোঝাতে between ব্যবহার করুন।

Use among when someone or something is part of a group. কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু একটি দলের মধ্যে থাকলে among ব্যবহার করুন।

10. Behind and In Front of — পেছনে ও সামনে

The garden is behind the house.	বাগানটি বাড়ির পেছনে।
The car is parked in front of the building.	গাড়িটি ভবনের সামনে পার্ক করা আছে।
Someone is standing behind you.	কেউ তোমার পেছনে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।
The teacher is standing in front of the class.	শিক্ষক শ্রেণির সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে আছেন।

In front of vs Opposite · পার্থক্য In front of = কোনো কিছুর সামনের দিকে।
Opposite = অন্য পাশে মুখোমুখি অবস্থানে।

The car is in front of the house. — গাড়িটি বাড়ির সামনে।
The bank is opposite the hospital. — ব্যাংকটি হাসপাতালের উল্টো দিকে।

11. Opposite and Across From — বিপরীত দিকে

We use opposite or across from when two places face each other on different sides. দুটি স্থান আলাদা পাশে মুখোমুখি অবস্থানে থাকলে opposite অথবা across from ব্যবহার করা হয়।

The bank is opposite the hospital.	ব্যাংকটি হাসপাতালের বিপরীত দিকে।
The café is across from the station.	ক্যাফেটি স্টেশনের উল্টো দিকে।
My office is opposite the park.	আমার অফিসটি পার্কের বিপরীতে।

12. Inside and Outside — ভেতরে ও বাইরে

The children are inside the house.	শিশুরা বাড়ির ভেতরে আছে।
Someone is waiting outside the office.	কেউ অফিসের বাইরে অপেক্ষা করছে।
Keep the medicine inside the cupboard.	ওষুধটি আলমারির ভেতরে রাখুন।
The car is parked outside the building.	গাড়িটি ভবনের বাইরে পার্ক করা আছে।

13. To and From — গন্তব্য ও উৎস

To shows the destination of movement. To চলাচলের গন্তব্য বোঝায়।

From shows the starting point or origin. From চলাচলের শুরুর স্থান বা উৎস বোঝায়।

🟢 ব্যতিক্রম: Home-এর আগে সাধারণত to বসে না।

14. Into and Out of — ভেতরে প্রবেশ ও বাইরে বের হওয়া

Into shows movement from outside to inside. Into বাইরে থেকে ভেতরে প্রবেশ বোঝায়।

Out of shows movement from inside to outside. Out of ভেতর থেকে বাইরে বের হওয়া বোঝায়।

15. In vs Into — অবস্থান বনাম ভেতরের দিকে চলাচল

16. Onto and Off — পৃষ্ঠের উপর ও পৃষ্ঠ থেকে নিচে

Onto shows movement to a surface. Onto কোনো পৃষ্ঠের দিকে চলাচল বোঝায়।

Off shows movement away from a surface. Off কোনো পৃষ্ঠ থেকে দূরে বা নিচে যাওয়া বোঝায়।

17. On vs Onto — অবস্থান বনাম পৃষ্ঠের দিকে চলাচল

On: Position	Onto: Movement
The ball is on the floor. বলটি মেঝের উপর আছে।	The ball rolled onto the floor. বলটি গড়িয়ে মেঝের উপর গেল।
He is sitting on the bed. সে বিছানার উপর বসে আছে।	He climbed onto the bed. সে বিছানার উপর উঠল।

18. Across and Through — এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে

Across means moving from one side of an open area or surface to the other. Across মানে কোনো খোলা এলাকা বা পৃষ্ঠের এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে যাওয়া।

Through means moving inside and from one end of an enclosed or surrounding area to another. Through মানে কোনো ঘেরা বা চারপাশে আবৃত এলাকার ভেতর দিয়ে এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্তে যাওয়া।

19. Along — কোনো পথ ধরে

We use along for movement following the length or direction of a road, river, path, wall, or beach. রাস্তা, নদী, পথ, দেয়াল অথবা সমুদ্রসৈকতের দৈর্ঘ্য বা দিক ধরে চলাচল বোঝাতে along ব্যবহার করা হয়।

We walked along the river.	আমরা নদীর ধার ধরে হাঁটলাম।
She cycled along the road.	সে রাস্তা ধরে সাইকেল চালিয়েছিল।
They walked along the beach.	তারা সমুদ্রসৈকত ধরে হাঁটল।
Drive along this street for two kilometres.	এই রাস্তা ধরে দুই কিলোমিটার গাড়ি চালান।

20. Past — পাশ দিয়ে অতিক্রম

We use past when someone or something moves beyond a person, place, or object. কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু অন্য ব্যক্তি, স্থান বা বস্তুর পাশ দিয়ে অতিক্রম করলে past ব্যবহার করা হয়।

Walk past the bank and turn left.	ব্যাংকের পাশ দিয়ে এগিয়ে গিয়ে বাঁ দিকে ঘুরুন।
The bus went past our house.	বাসটি আমাদের বাড়ির পাশ দিয়ে গেল।
She ran past me without speaking.	সে কথা না বলে আমার পাশ দিয়ে দৌড়ে গেল।

21. Towards — কোনো দিকের দিকে

We use towards when someone or something moves in the direction of a place, person, or object. কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু কোনো স্থান, ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর দিকের দিকে গেলে towards ব্যবহার করা হয়।

The sentence does not necessarily mean that the destination was reached. বাক্যটি সবসময় বোঝায় না যে গন্তব্যে পৌঁছানো হয়েছে।

She walked towards the station.	সে স্টেশনের দিকে হাঁটল।
The dog ran towards me.	কুকুরটি আমার দিকে দৌড়ে এল।
They drove towards the city.	তারা শহরের দিকে গাড়ি চালাল।

22. Around — চারপাশে অথবা ঘুরে

We walked around the park.	আমরা পার্কের চারপাশে হাঁটলাম।
The children ran around the house.	শিশুরা বাড়ির চারপাশে দৌড়াল।
They travelled around the country.	তারা দেশজুড়ে বিভিন্ন স্থানে ভ্রমণ করেছিল।
Turn around and look behind you.	ঘুরে দাঁড়ান এবং আপনার পেছনে দেখুন।

23. Up and Down — উপরের দিকে ও নিচের দিকে

25. Transport: In or On? — যানবাহনে In নাকি On?
